II. OBJECTIVES:


Windows, being contrary to everyone else, tried to dominate the naming world with its own naming system. They called it, what else, WINS. Here we explore why it is a loser from the word go.

V. INTRODUCTION:


Windows has its own naming service. It is called WINS for Windows Internet Naming Service.



VI. CONTENT :


Windows Internet Naming Service (or Scheme - lol) is an alternative service running on the Windows 2003 server. Its purpose is the same as the DNS used on the internet network but deals more explicitly with the old Netbui names used in Workgroups under the old Windows system.
